Anna Gallo's Obituary
Anna Gallo, age 91, died on Thursday March 15, 2018, in Tomball, Texas.
She was born on June 14th (Flag Day) in 1926 in the Bronx where she lived on Hone Avenue with her father New York City Police Inspector Paul Delgardo (whom she idolized), her mother Bridget, and her sisters Rose, Lucy, Pauline, and Irene. She always had a special dedication to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Even from the youngest age her unfailing faith guided every choice and every decision she made.
Ever a trailblazer, Anna was one of the first women of her generation to drive and to be college educated. She graduated from The College of New Rochelle with a degree in education in 1947 and many years later went on to get her masters degree at The State University of New York at Stony Brook. In 1951 she married Amelio Gallo and they had six children (John, Paul, Virginia, Anne, Christine, and Teresa) who she raised in devout Catholic tradition. She was a devoted mother, and always had time for her children, as well as numerous nieces and nephews alike.
In 1966, after her husband had suffered a serious illness, they worked together to move the family from New York City to the suburbs of Long Island for a better life. She was a working mom, and a loving/no-nonsense language teacher at the middle school in Smithtown, NY, until she retired at 55 years old.
Years later after Mel had passed and her children were grown, she was on the move again to join her four daughters as they raised their families in Texas. In her retirement in San Antonio she volunteered countless hours with Avance child literacy programs, Catholic Daughters, The Ladies Altar Society, Saint Matthews Catholic Church, and the Society Of St. Vincent de Paul.
Her last years were spent in New Haven Memory Care Facility in Tomball, Texas.
She is survived by her six children, 17 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She was loved by many and will be deeply missed.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, March 23, at St. Anne Catholic Church, 1111 S. Cherry Street, Tomball, TX 77375, and on Tuesday, April 3, at St. Patrick's Church in Smithtown, NY. She will be laid to rest in Calverton National Cemetery in New York alongside her husband, Mel.
