AnitGa Gayle (Condel) Otto, age 61, of Spring, Texas, passed away on Sun., Aug. 22, 2021. She was born in San Antonio, Texas, to Emil and Dolores Condel on Mar. 11, 1960. Anita graduated from John Marshall High School in 1976 and received a Bachelor of Science in Speech Communication, with concentrations in Spanish and Business Administration, from The University of Texas at Austin in 1982. On a picturesque, late summer day, Anita married Charlie Otto, her husband of 30 years, on Mackinac Island.

Anita was deeply committed to her Catholic faith, which she embodied in countless aspects of her life. A dedicated church volunteer, she participated as a Lay Eucharistic Minister, led Baptism classes in Spanish, taught religious education and coordinated food pantry deliveries, among numerous other efforts. From her teaching ESL at Northwest Assistance Ministries, to her time spent as a Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Advocate, to her work at the City of Houston Mayor's Office and the EEOC, Anita found fulfillment in serving others and trying to make the world a better place.

Anita is preceded in death by her parents Emil and Dolores Condel, sister DeeAnn Schleicher, sister-in-law Ruth Abood and father-in-law Howard Otto.

She is survived by her husband Charlie, her brothers Timothy Condel and Alan (Bonnie) Condel, daughters Kristin (Benjamin) Kluding and Carla Joan Otto, mother-in-law Joan Otto, sister-in-law Dorianne (Jeffrey) Jentzen and brother-in-laws John (Nancy) Otto, Kevin Schleicher and Chris Abood. She is also survived by nieces and nephews Jason Condel, Aaron (Emily) Condel, Todd (Bobbie) Condel, Nicole (Cyrus) Samii, Kaitlin (Daniel) Newman, Michael (Chloe) Otto, Suzanne (Rob) Mattar, Ellie Nystrom, John Christopher Abood and a host of other dear family members and loving friends.

While her passing was unexpected and no words can explain how we feel, Anita undoubtedly lived with purpose: one of the greatest lessons we take away from our time with her is that to make any progress in life—to make a difference—we cannot be faint-of-heart or bury our heads in the sand. Her resolute nature served as a backbone for her family and friends—and ultimately shaped us all for the better. While our ability to spend time with her here physically may have come to an end, our memories of and with her are timeliness.
