After a fierce battle with a glioblastoma, Angela Marie Batt (née Leyendecker) was called home from her earthly life by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to everlasting life. Angie's large extended family will miss her measurably, as will the enormous number of people whose lives she touched. We were all blessed to have experienced Angie's amazing kindness, deep faith, and selfless devotion to improving the lives of everyone who crossed her path. A true servant leader and staunch advocate for anyone in need, Angie possessed a rare combination of compassion, courage, strength of will, and an unwavering moral compass that guided her throughout her life. Even in the face of her illness, she demonstrated remarkable grace and courage that inspired all who knew her.

Born in Austin, TX and raised mostly in Houston, TX, Angie was the calming spirit among six active and energetic siblings. She could always be counted on to help whenever and with whatever was needed around the family home.

As a young person, Angie was drawn into the musical world, devoted to improving her singing and flute playing skills. She carried her musical interest for the rest of her life, performing at weddings and church services.

Subsequent to graduating from the University of Texas, Angie joined American Express in their Dallas office, where she met the love of her life, James Batt. Over the course of their almost 44 year marriage the couple resided in Dallas, Philadelphia, Toronto, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, Phuket Thailand, San Diego and then back to Houston, TX where most of her family still resided.

Along this journey, the couple welcomed son, Henry, an amazing birth story in Singapore. Henry was Angie's whole world and his birth called on Angie's natural devotion to care. Rather than questioning the challenge, she dived in head first with her natural love, sensitivity and caring skills, all that gave Henry a great start and future.

While they resided on the island of Phuket, Thailand Angie experienced the 2004 tsunami tragedy that leveled the area and took over 1,000 lives. It was another opportunity for Angie to exhibit her innate kindness and service to others working tirelessly to help the island community get back on its feet.

After a couple decades overseas Angie and family returned home to the US, spending a few years in San Diego before locating to Houston to rejoin family and complete son, Henry's, education. During this time Angie chose to advance her education in order to teach school.

Angie then chose to focus on teaching young children eventually specializing in dyslexia. She was devoted to helping her students not just improve their ability to learn but also to experience the potential and joy of life. And as her parents aged, Angie was always there to help them through every single challenge.

More recently, Angie became enamored with Monarch butterflies. She must have been attracted to not just their beauty, but also the delicate life they have as well as the amazing 3,000 mile journey they make each year. At her Houston home, Angie built way stations and grew food to support these wonderful creatures' lifecycle.

Angie is preceded in death by her devoted husband James Batt and her father, Ernest Leyendecker Jr. She is survived by her son, Henry Batt, her mother, Julia Leyendecker, her siblings Douglas Leyendecker, Patricia Birchfield, Ernest Leyendecker III, Jennifer Podeschi and Kevin Leyendecker, their wonderful spouses and a busload of nieces and nephews who all experienced her amazing spirit, kindness and devotion to helping others.

Selfless, spirited, full of joy and optimism, Angie's sweetness affected everyone she touched. To her family she was not just sweet Angie, she was Angie the angel. Her deep faith, courageous spirit, and steadfast commitment to others defined the way she lived every day. It may not have been a coincidence that she passed on the Catholic Holy Day of Fatima.

A service honoring Angie will be held on June 11 at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. A light reception will follow.
