Angel Anselmo Sanchez Lopez, 83, of Houston, passed away on May 12, 2020, with his family at his side. He was born to the late Anselmo Lopez and Juana Doraliza Sanchez, on October 1, 1936, in Lima, Peru. Angel married Julia Bertilla Ojeda de Lopez on July 31, 1965 and they lived together in Lima, Peru for nine years, until relocating to the United States, in the state of New York. They would settle in New York City, living in Brooklyn, NY for six years, until moving to Woodside, Queens in 1980. The loving couple would live in Queens, NY for twenty-six years, until relocating for the last time in Houston, TX in 2005. Angel is survived by his four children: Angel Lopez, of Queens, NY; Sandro Lopez, of Houston; Kenric Lopez, of Hockley; and Christian Lopez of Cypress. He is also survived by his eleven grandchildren. Angel sailed around Latin America as a Merchant Marine from Peru. His first visit to the United States came in 1957, where his ship docked in New York City. Angel fell in love with the United States and decided to migrate to New York City in 1970. After finding employment with the State of New York, Angel worked tirelessly for four years and raised enough funds to purchase airfare for his wife and two kids from Peru. The family would reunite in Brooklyn, NY, in 1974. Angel Lopez worked as a Building Service employee for the State of New York in the Brooklyn Correctional Facility and the New York State Mental Health Facility in Manhattan between the years of 1970 to 1981. In 1981, due to budget cuts from the State of New York, the facilities were permanently closed. Angel found employment as the Housekeeping Supervisor for Le Parker Meridien Hotel New York, in midtown Manhattan. Angel would work in that position until his retirement in 2001. A family held viewing will be held on Friday, May 15, 2020 at 5 PM at Klein Funeral Homes and Memorial Parks, in Houston. The cremation will take place on a future date. The Lopez family would like to extend a big thank you to all the family members living in the U.S., Peru, friends and colleagues, that have expressed their condolences, kind words, and loving support, at this moment of our lives.
