Andrew "Andy" White passed away on February 20, 2024, at 9:20 pm at the age of 81 after a courageous fight with cancer. He was born and spent his early years in Winnsboro, Louisiana. After completing high school, he joined the army and spent 3 years as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division and was subsequently honorably discharged. He earned an Economics degree from California State University where he also worked as a custodian. Soon after earning his degree, he began a career with Texaco as a young, scrappy salesperson. Years later, he then moved on to negotiating union contracts, eventually becoming an executive leading the company's wellness program. Beyond the many successes he achieved as a businessman, his greatest successes were his generosity and love of people. Andy never met a stranger.
He also had many hobbies including listening to 'straight ahead' and smooth jazz and running; he ran in 25 marathons! And let's not forget about his famous ribs and smoked meats…he loved barbequing. He made Houston, Texas his home for the last 42 years of his life with his wife of 58 years, Mary.
Andy is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Aundra; son-in-law, Kevin; and granddaughters, Melai and Madisyn and a host of relatives in Monroe, Louisiana. He is predeceased by his mother, Celia White; uncle, Ceasar Clark; aunt Lorean Haney; and cousin, Willie B. McGinnis.
A family and friends gathering will be held at Klein Funeral Homes & Memorial, 16131 Champion Forest Dr, Spring, TX 77379, on Sunday, March 3, 2024, from 2pm-5pm. He will be laid to rest the following day, Monday, March 4, 2024, at the Houston National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Cancer Research Institute @ give.cancerresearch.org.
