Andrew Douglas Matangelo, 18, of Montgomery County Texas passed into the presence of our Lord on December 31, 2025. He was born to Douglas and Anna Matangelo at home in Spokane, Washington on a snowy Sunday, December 30, 2007. A most beloved son, brother, nephew, grandson, friend, and student, he kept his cheerful attitude, sense of humor, and kindness to others to the very end.

Andrew will be remembered by his profound love for his sisters, his contagious smile and laugh, his stellar work ethic, his steadfast faith, and the exceptional example he gave to each person he met. He had an eclectic array of interests. From an early age, he loved playing chess. He enjoyed a variety of music genres and could memorize the words to songs in one hearing. As a child he enjoyed playing basketball and doing track and field. He pursued his dream of fighting, taking Krav Maga classes for two years before his diagnosis. He loved watching football with his mother. His life-long appreciation for World War 2 and the depth of his knowledge earned him the call sign "Data" from a naval captain. Andrew worked hard at home, school, church, and his job. Caring for the lawn at an early age, assisting his father with extensive remodeling to our California house, and preparing Sunday morning breakfast for the family were his specialties. He used these skills and his love for people at his most cherished job at Chick-fil-A where he was affectionately known as "Andy". He maintained exemplary marks in school even throughout his chemotherapy treatment and final months of life.

Andrew was diagnosed with Osteoblastic Osteosarcoma in September, 2024. He never complained about this providence and saw it as his personal battle in which to glorify his Lord Jesus Christ. Through chemotherapy infusions, above the knee amputation, and countless doctor appointments and hospitalizations, he continued to smile while keeping his family and friends laughing too. Hearing the news that his cancer could not be beat, he cheerfully chose to forego extensive palliative treatments by getting his port removed and throwing himself back into normal life. He was most happy when attending church weekly, working, and spending time with family and friends. He spent his final weekend and birthday surrounded by family and friends. Though he struggled to breathe, he joyfully fought to sing songs, smile at his family, and speak encouraging words.

Preceded by his grandparents, Gary and Wanda Gonzales, Andrew is survived by his parents Doug and Anna; sisters Annalisa, Alyssa, Abrielle, Aleena; grandparents Mike and Kathy Matangelo; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
