Alyce Ann Aufdembrink was born September 8, 1942 and died November 18, 2022. She lived a full and dignified life. A woman with a strong spirit, keen moral sense, and great taste, she balanced quiet determination and grace to create an environment that was a comfort to anyone who was in her presence. She gave generously to those that she loved and asked very little in return.
The common theme across being a wife, mother, grandmother and business leader is that Alyce Aufdembrink was generous and loving to all that she met. Her relentless desire to care for others touched so many people. Having Alyce in your life was a pure gift. That is why we so strongly celebrate her life and so deeply mourn her passing.
Born in the Baden neighborhood on the north side of St. Louis Missouri to Winona and Chesley VanStratten, Alyce had a blessed life. She was raised by parents who filled her with a deep faith, unfailing love, and a genuine sense of kindness. She was the youngest child and had three siblings; Edward Neis, Gloria Kreitner and Jeanne Krehmeyer.
Alyce met her future husband Dave Aufdembrink in front of Ebenezer Lutheran church. They were married on August 31, 1963 and began a beautiful life together that spanned 59 years. That marriage demonstrates how love & respect can combine to create a partnership that spawns boundless happiness and rich rewards. Alyce was Dave's inseparable companion and limitless source of strength, comfort and joy.
Together they had a son Michael who was given the amazing experience of having Alyce as mother, mentor and dear friend. Alyce was the constant throughout Michael's entire life and was an unfailing source of love and support in good times and bad. Being taught by Alyce how to grow into an adult was simple, study how she lives and treats others, and then be as much like her as possible. Michael married Christine who cherished Alyce as a close, trusted friend and role model.
Alyce had a long and successful career managing senior living communities. The residents of her communities benefited from her relentless focus on caring and in return they adored her. She retired (at least) three times. Each time she enjoyed a period of relaxation but would then find a job that would soon grow into a center director or regional VP role where she could do what she did best, care for others.
Alyce was blessed by two grandchildren Hannah and Davis. Each would be the beneficiary of having "Nana" dote on them and teach them the gifts of creativity, sensitivity and selflessness. Her generosity and genuine care for those around her made her the epitome of all a grandmother should be. She always found a way to make every occasion special and memorable for her family and brought joy to every moment they shared together.
