Obituary

Alton Herman Hengst, age 80, retired Veteran, was born in Yorktown, Texas, on July 11, 1936, and passed on to his heavenly home on Friday,  October 7, 2016, due to brain cancer and pneumonia. Alton was truly an unbelievable fighter for many years.

Alton was baptized  on October 4, 1936, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Yorktown, TX, and confirmed on May 13, 1951, at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, San Antonio, TX.  After high school, Alton joined the Marine Corps in August 1957, served two tours of duty, and received an honorable discharge in August 1962. He was proud to have served in the Marine Corps and proud to be a Marine.

On January 15, 1972, he married his beloved wife, Caroline Mitschke, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church and they have been members of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1982. They became proud parents of a daughter, Michelle, and a son, Jonathan; and proud grandparents of two grand children, Noah and Samuel. Alton was a family man. He was a very loving, kind, patient, and understanding husband, father, and friend. He worked in the freight and trucking industry as a truck driver for many years until he retired. His hobby was working in the garden raising cucumbers so Carol could pickle them. He also loved growing pecan and lemon trees, always trying to keep them watered. He loved to fish and then tell fish stories. Watching CNN News 24/7 was a great pass time for him as well as watching action movies.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Milda Hengst; stepmother, Evelyn Hengst; and sister, Hermina Koepke. Survived by wife of 44 years, Caroline;  daughter, Michelle Samadani and husband Michael; s on, Jonathan; two grandchildren:,Noah and Samuel; brother, Raymond Hengst and wife Shirley of San Antonio, TX; sister, Shirley Wolf and husband Glen of Albuquerque, NM; and half sister, Joyce Hicks and husband Willard of San Antonio, TX. Also survived by many other family members including nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at Klein Funeral Home - Champions, 16131 Champion Forest Drive, Spring, TX 77379. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 5201 Spring Cypress Road, Spring, TX 77379. Interment with military honors will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery, 13102 North Freeway, Houston.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Building Fund at Trinity Lutheran Church, 5201 Spring Cypress Road,Spring, TX 77379 . ?
