Obituary

It is with the heaviest of hearts we share that Alton "Ray" Broussard passed away on the morning of May 31, 2023. He was at his home in Cypress, Texas, surrounded by family with his wife at his side.

Ray was born on August 28, 1950, in Sour Lake, Texas, to his mother, Mary Lillian Broussard, and father, Lawrence Alton Broussard, as the youngest of 6 children.  He spent his childhood in Midland, Texas, spending summers working alongside his father in the oil industry. By the age of 17, he met his lifelong wife, D'Juana "D.J." Thornton, with whom he spent his life. At a young age, Ray was a determined man that was clear he would leave a legacy of meaning behind.  He coincidentally started a job in the life safety & fire industry, the first step into a more than 50-year career. That first job was with Grinnell Fire Protection (now Johnson Controls) in 1968. He stayed with that company for over 35 years before starting BMF Solutions with his family. BMF Solutions will continue to extend his principles and values into an industry where despite his humble nature, he became an icon.

Ray was a man of deep faith, kindness, loyalty, and generosity, and these values left their fingerprints on every aspect of his life. As a husband, father, community contributor, industry partner, and company owner- Ray strived daily to influence those around him to be a testament to those same attributes. His family was proud to watch him participate for years in the Cy-Hope Backpack Program, weekly prioritizing time to fill backpacks of food for children in need to take home.  His own childhood experiences gave him great empathy and motivation to help and support families in his community.

Throughout his life, Ray was excited to travel, took painting and saxophone lessons, and loved to eat at nice restaurants with D.J. It was said it's hard to get Ray to smile in a photo. Yet, you'll rarely find one of him with family, especially with grandkids, where he is not grinning from ear to ear.

Ray is survived by his lifelong loving wife, D.J., and their three children, Michael Broussard, Alicia Shepherd, and Jared Broussard. Ray will be fondly remembered as "Fuzzy" by his 7 grandchildren, Brendan, Nicholas, Bobby, Evelyn, Chelsea, Madelynn, and Savannah.

Services will be held at Klein Funeral Home - CyFair Northwest, located at 9719 Wortham Blvd., Houston, Texas, 77065.

His wake will be held on the evening of Monday, June 5th, 2023, from 5-8 PM, and is open to the public.  His funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 6th, 2023, at 2 PM, with graveside services immediately following.  His funeral and graveside services are reserved for family, closest friends, and his BMF family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cy-Hope Backpack Program in Ray's name.
