Alexander George Brian Strathdee was born to Hazel Rowena Hulse in Long Beach, California, on September 26, 1959. When he was just days old they moved back to her hometown of Toronto, Canada, where he grew up spending time with his family, in particular his beloved grandfather "Poppy," and making memories of beautiful summers at Niagara Falls and fun winters playing street hockey. There he became a lifelong fan of hockey and loved rooting for his favorite team- the Toronto Maple Leafs.

In his early teens Alex moved with family to Houston, Texas, where he would meet his future wife Iris and form friendships at school and church that would carry on throughout his life. Alex married Iris in June of 1981 and they shared almost 37 years together until her passing in 2018. Iris always credited Alex with teaching her patience and how to wait on God's timing. In 1986 they had daughter Megan, and three of them became team Strathdee, a unique blend of varied personalities, all balancing each other out to form a strong unit.

He and Megan visited his hometown of Toronto in 2014 and were able to go to the home he grew up in, attend a Maple Leafs game, see his old favorite sites and take in a few new ones. It was a special trip for them both, and shortly after that he and Iris welcomed their first grandchild Asher, followed by Abbie a year and a half later. Asher mastered saying "Papa" early on and always toddled after him, followed by Abbie once she was up and running. They both loved their Papa very much.

Alex worked for Thermetrics Maveric as an inspector and shipping clerk for 11 years until a job injury changed his plans, and he then worked for Randall's Grocery Stores for over 20 years in various roles as needed, including being a store ambassador for new locations. His tales of the food industry kept his family entertained, including the time he had to help in an emergency to decorate and deliver a wedding cake.

Alex will be remembered for his humor, his quiet nature, his patience with others and his deep love of God.

He is preceded in death by his wife Iris and mother Hazel, and will be missed and lovingly remembered by his daughter Megan, son in law Aaron, grandchildren Asher and Abbie, and by many friends and family.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 24, at Klein Funeral Home - CyFair Northwest, 9719 Wortham Boulevard, Houston, TX 77065. Friends may gather to visit with the family beginning at 1 p.m. Interment will be private.
