Alexander Benjamin Klein, Jr., M.D., affectionately known to many by his childhood nickname "A.B.", as "Alex" by his wife, and lovingly referred to as "Papa" by his grandchildren, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 25, 2024, at the age of 86 years.
Alex was a devout Christian who cherished his faith, his family, and most of all his beloved wife of over sixty years, Elsa.  His unwavering love and devotion for Elsa was his enduring legacy and his greatest gift to his four children, their spouses, and his eight grandchildren.
Alex was born on October 15, 1938, at Heights Hospital in Houston, Texas, to the late Alexander and Rosa Klein. His life was anchored in his Christian faith, which he nurtured from an early age, being confirmed into the Lutheran church in 1952 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hufsmith, Texas.
Alex was a man of remarkable achievements, beginning his academic journey as the seventh of nine children in a loving family environment. He excelled at Tomball High School, where he was both the senior class president and captain of the football team. A proud Eagle Scout and the class Valedictorian, Alex pursued higher education at the University of Texas at Austin graduating in 1960, followed by a degree from Baylor University College of Medicine in 1965.
His professional journey was paused momentarily in service to his country during the Vietnam War, where he served with the United States Public Health Service in Washington D.C.  Upon returning to Texas, he completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine in 1971.
His illustrious career in medicine spanned more than five decades, taking root in Conroe, Texas, where he established Conroe Ob/Gyn & Associates. Alex's practice was a beacon of hope and health for many, and through his work, he delivered more than 7,000 new lives into the world. His dedication to surgical excellence and preventative medicine improved the lives of his patients, his family, and his friends, leaving an indelible impact on all who knew him.
Yet, Alexander's most profound legacy was his steadfast devotion to his beloved wife, Elsa, and their close-knit family. On June 12, 1964, he married the love of his life, Elsa van Dobben; together, they cultivated a life rich in shared passions, from exploring the world, to collecting antiques, marveling at the wonders of God's creation, and nurturing their home and family. Alexander was unceasingly devoted to Elsa, their bond serving as a testament to the power of love and companionship, enduring for over sixty beautiful years.
Alexander was also a cherished father and grandfather, consistently sharing his time, love, and attention with his pride and joy, his four children and eight grandchildren.

Alex's passion for science, history, nature, and the study of the Bible and world religions was evident in every conversation and endeavor he undertook, always shared with an infectious enthusiasm that inspired those around him.
He retired from the practice of medicine in 2022, enjoying his free time relaxing with his loved ones and devouring books, intent on pursuing his quest for knowledge.
Alex was preceded in death by his parents Alexander B. Klein and Rosa Amelia Haude Klein, his brother Teddy Klein and his wife Leora, his brother Howard Klein and his wife Jeannette and his wife Pat, his brother-in-law Dr. James Fredrick, his sister Rosalie Nelson and her husband Bill, his brother Robert Klein, his brother-in-law Hap Harrington, his brother-in-law Dr. Joseph Malina, Jr. and his daughter-in-law Jane Ann Klein.
Alex is survived by his loving wife, Elsa van Dobben Klein, and their children: Alexander B. Klein III, Myriam K. Legge and her husband Glenn, Adam V. Klein and his wife Buffey, and Andrea K. Denena and her husband Tony, along with his grandchildren: Augustus Klein, Colin Legge and Sarika Legge Strake and her husband Brett, Audry and Abby Klein, Max, Ella, and Sophia Denena.  Alex is also survived by his sisters, Margie Fredrick, Shirley Harrington, Ida Malina, his sister-in-law Ruthie Klein, his brother Milow Klein and his wife Ronda, as well as his numerous nieces and nephews.  A.B.'s passing leaves a heartfelt void but an abundance of cherished memories.
A funeral and celebration of life for Dr. Alexander Klein will be held at St. Mark Lutheran Church, located at 2100 Tickner Street, Conroe, Texas, on November 30, 2024, at 1:00 pm, with a visitation starting at 11:30 am. A graveside service will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery on Klein Cemetery Road in Spring, Texas, at 3:00 pm.
The family extends their warm gratitude to all those who have offered prayers and support during this time.
