ALEX MARTIN WENDT

Alex M Wendt past away December 22, 2018 in Sugar Land, TX just shy of his 95th birthday. He was born January 23, 1924 to Steve Wendt and Frances Januchowski Wendt in Houston, TX.   Alex was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers - Henry, Charlie and Harry and 1 sister, Theresa.  He leaves his wife of 74 years, Evelyn Johnson Wendt, who he met in Cincinnati, OH during his Army Air Corp training at Xavier U; 5 children - Kathie Enloe, Sheri (Don) Beecher, Jim (Debbi) Wendt, Gary Wendt & Chris Rushefsky; 10 grandchildren - Gina (Mark), Lisa (Tracy), Patrick (Vicki), Kelley (John), Ryan (Mandy), Jeremy (Devin), Ashley (Kenneth), Shawn, Joel & Avery; 12 great-grandchildren - Michael (Dava), Christopher, Samantha, Erin, Kaleigh, Kole, Owen, Chase, Sawyer, Rush, Zoey & Zach; 1 great-great-grandson - Zane. There are numerous nieces and nephews that will also mourn his passing.

Alex was proud to have served in the Army during WWII - 75th Division, 899th Field Artillery and saw war up close in the Battle of the Bulge, France and then in Germany.  He found out later that 2 of his older brothers were also in several of those battles at the same time.  He came home to his bride that he left and a new baby daughter.

Alex went to work at several companies during his career as a design/drafting engineer in the oil parts industry.  He had patents under his name and the company's name.  His last job was with Galveston Houston - Matco. He was a long time member and past president of American Society of Metallurgists (ASM).  Alex was also very proud of being a Knight, past Grand Knight and Past Navigator of the Knights of Columbus Council 10861. Woodworking was his passion and could make just about anything out of wood. Everyone in the family, as well as, many friends have furniture made by him.  He became well-known for his antique wooden cars; not toys!

A funeral mass will be held at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church, 7810 Cypresswood Dr, Spring, TX 77379 on January 14th at 12 noon.  A reception will follow and then burial at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Knights of Columbus Council 10861, St. Ignatius of Loyola, a Veterans organization of your choice or any other charity of your choice.  We would also like to thank the staff at Landon Ridge in Sugar Land for all their care they gave Alex during his final years.
