Alan Garfield Breed, 77, of Magnolia, Texas, passed away March 16th, 2023. He is preceded in death by his parents Myrtle and Herbert Breed, his sisters Virginia, June and twin sisters Brenda and Glenda, as well as his brothers Herbert Jr., Johnny and Harvey. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Kathy; his three children Alan M., Melanie, and Erin (Matt); his seven grandchildren, Alan S., Damien, Bailey, Ross, Spence, Peyton, and Nicholas; his four great-grandchildren; as well as his sister-in-law Carolyn and numerous nieces and nephews. His family was the joy of his life.

Alan was born September 13, 1945 in LaGrange, Georgia where he lived until moving to Houston in 1954. He was a member of the ROTC at John H. Reagan High School, where he excelled at math and science, and went on to attend Texas A&M University and become a member of the Corps of Cadets (Class of '67). Thereafter, he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1967, becoming a member in the Navy's nuclear-powered submarine fleet and serving on numerous nuclear deterrent patrols at the height of the Cold War.

Alan and Kathy met while he was stationed in Idaho for nuclear propulsion training in 1969 and were inseparable until his passing. After his discharge from the Navy in 1976, they returned to the Houston area and settled in Magnolia, where they raised their family and built their home. With the transition from the Navy, Alan began his career in the oil & gas industry, working first for Hydril Company, and then spent the bulk of his career working for Cameron Iron Works (later Cameron International), as an engineer and research and development test lab manager, where he was blessed with many lifelong friendships and countless fishing and poker buddies.

Alan's deep love of and devotion to his family provided an incredible will to live through his battle with cancer.

There will be a visitation at Klein Funeral Home (1400 W. Main, Tomball) on Thursday, March 23 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, and a graveside service, open to all, at the Houston National Cemetery (10410 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston 77038) on Friday, March 24 at 9:00 am.

His son, son-in-law, and four of his grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include David McWhorter, Charlie Gibbs, Mike Ward, and Rick Sober.
