Abner 'Benson' Vann passed away on Friday, September 16, 2016. Benson was born on September 21, 1939, in Tucson, Arizona. His parents were Mark Stroud Vann and Sarah Fausett Vann.

Benson graduated from Tucson High School in 1957 and later attended the University of Arizona. In March of 1962, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. His last post was Camp Walters in Mineral Wells, Texas, where he served in the Army Security Agency. While stationed there, he met his future wife, Barbara, in October of 1962 while visiting the church she attended.

Benson and Barbara were married on August 21, 1965. They lived in Tucson, Arizona, for one year and then McKinney, Texas, for 8 years. While living in McKinney, Benson returned to college and graduated from the University of North Texas in December 1972 with a degree in Marketing. Over the years, he worked as a sales representative for several different wall-coverings companies until he semi-retired in 1996.

After retiring, he became involved with the Soccer Start Program at his wife's school in the Cy-Fair School District. With Barbara serving as the school representative, Benson took on the role of coach. The two of them, along with their son Mark who also coached a team, worked with the program for several years. During this time, Benson was awarded an Outstanding Adult Volunteer award by the Texas Association of Partners in Education. When his wife retired, he continued being a Soccer Start coach at his daughter's school. He enjoyed working with all of the students involved in the program at both schools.

Benson is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara, his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Briana, and his daughter, Becky. He is also survived by his grandson, Corvin, of whom he was extremely proud.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 22 from 5-8 p.m. The funeral will be held on Friday, September 23 at 10 a.m. Both of these will be held at Klein Funeral Home on Champions Forest. Burial will be held at Klein Memorial Park in Tomball, Texas, at noon on Friday.
